picoChip has secured $27 million of new investment in fourth round funding. Highland Capital Partners led the financing round together with undisclosed key strategic investors. Existing investors include Atlas Venture, Pond Venture Partners, Scottish Equity, Rothschild, Intel and AT&T. The new money will fund future growth.

Announcement of a partnership between UK chip developer, picoChip and Korea Telecom has opened up the possibility of WiMAX access points supplanting WiFi for wireless communications in the home. The two companies have formed a partnership to develop home-base stations, otherwise know as "femtocells."
